SUBCLASS 485 – TEMPORARY GRADUATE VISA

GRADUATE WORK STREAM

For international students who graduate with skills and qualifications and lodge a 485 visa application between 1 July 2022 and 30 June 2023 won’t need to nominate a skilled occupation or have applied and subsequently obtained a positive skills assessment in this occupation. They won’t need to meet the closely related criteria either. However, they still need to meet the Australian Study Requirement and have completed an eligible qualification in Australia. A visa in this stream will be granted for 24 months.

POST-STUDY WORK STREAM

For graduates who applied for their initial student visa application and had their visa granted after 5th November 2011. Must have studied a Bachelor, Master or PhD in Australia and meet the Australian study requirement. A visa in this stream will be granted for either 36 or 48 months.

SUBCLASS 189 – SKILLED INDEPENDANT 

The Skilled Independent Visa allows highly skilled workers who are not sponsored by an employer, State or Territory, or family member to live and work permanently in Australia.  If you wish to apply for this visa, you must first obtain a positive full skills assessment for your nominated occupation and lodge an EOI.  Upon receiving an invitation, you will be invited to lodge the 189 visa application.

SUBCLASS 190 – SKILLED NOMINATED (STATE OR TERRITORY)

The Skilled Nominated Visa allows highly skilled workers who are nominated by an Australian State or Territory to live and work permanently in Australia.  If you wish to apply for this visa, you must first obtain a positive full skills assessment for your nominated occupation, then lodge an EOI and State or Territory sponsored nomination.  If your nomination is successful, you will receive an invitation to lodge the subclass 190 visa application.

SUBCLASS 491 – SKILLED WORK PROVISIONAL (STATE OR TERRITORY NOMINATED / FAMILY SPONSORED)

The Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) Visa has 2 streams which allow skilled workers to live, work, and study in a designated regional area in Australia for 5 years.

  • State & Territory Regional Nominated Stream: This stream requires you to first obtain a positive full skills assessment for your nominated occupation, and lodge an EOI and State or Territory sponsored nomination if you meet their requirements. If your nomination is successful, you will receive an invitation to lodge the subclass 491 visa application.

  • Eligible Relative Sponsored Stream: This stream requires you to be sponsored by an eligible relative who is usually resident in a ‘designated regional area’ of Australia. You then must also obtain a positive full skills assessment for your nominated occupation, and lodge an EOI. Upon receiving an invitation, you will be invited to lodge the 491 visa application.

SUBCLASS 191 – REGIONAL PERMANENT STREAM

This visa allows people who have lived and worked in designated regional areas of Australia on an eligible visa, live and work in Australia permanently.
  • ​​​​You don’t need a sponsor or nominator​
  • You must hold an eligible visa and complied with the conditions of that visa
  • You must have lived for at least 3 years in a designated regional area
  • You must have had a taxable income at or above a specific income threshold for at least 3 years while holding your eligible visa​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

SUBCLASS 191 – HONG KONG STREAM

This visa lets eligible Hong Kong or British National (Overseas) passport holders who have demonstrated commitment to Australia, live and work in Australia permanently.
  • ​​​​​You must hold a Hong Kong passport or a British National (Overseas) passport
  • You don’t need a sponsor or nominator
  • You must meet certain visa requirements
  • You must meet certain residence requirements​
